Reserve Book Collection (RBC)
|
The Reserve Book Collection is located next to the main loan counter on the 2 nd level. It contains mainly books recommended by lecturers for the various courses. Past year examination papers and course notes can also be found here. NIE Examination Papers are also available on the web at http://www.acis.nie.edu.sg/NIELibrary/eresources/exampapers.htm. Books in the RBC are arranged by the Library of Congress Classification scheme. - Log into your account through WebOPAC to search whether a book is in the Red Spot Collection.
- Note down the call no and proceed to the Red Spot Collection for the book.
Below is an example of an OPAC holdings display of a reserve (red spot) book: Rules On: Borrowing - Reserve Book Collection items must be borrowed once they have been taken out from the Reserve Book Room at the loan counter.
Loan Limit/Period - Only ONE item may be borrowed for a period of 2 hours at a time. However, any accompanying materials may be borrowed, as long as your loan limit is not exceeded.
Overdue Fines - Overdue reserve books are fined at 50 cents per hour or a fraction thereof.
- If the item does not come back on time, you will be liable for a fine and, if it cannot be found, you will be charged with the cost of the book plus $20 (with GST) and overdue fines.
Overnight Loans - Overnight loans begin TWO hours before the loan counter closes and must be returned by 9 am the next opening day.
Reservations - Reserve Book Collection items are for loan on a first come, first-served basis and may not be reserved.
Renewals - Reserve books may be renewed at the discretion of the Librarian and her delegates.
Returning - To ensure proper cancellation of loan records please return reserve books PERSONALLY to the designated red spot terminal and wait to make sure that the counter staff has discharged the loan on the system and cancelled the due date.
- Do not return them via the Book Return Bin as fines will be charged at the time the books are discharged and fines for their late return will be charged by the hour.
- Note that if you mistakenly return a red-spot book to the shelves instead of to the staff at the loan counter, you will be liable for overdue fines.
Important Notes: - No bags/attache cases or files may be brought into the RBC area.
- Borrowers are encouraged to check their library accounts regularly at http://opac.nie.edu.sg/ to keep track of their reserve book loans.
